Why Is Ayurveda Good For You?

I have been writing a lot about Ayurveda and its various remedies. And hopefully, you had a chance to read some of the posts and maybe even use some of the Ayurvedic advice. Let me know, if you have and how did it work out for you!

Today, we will talk about the benefits of discovering and learning the intricacies of Ayurveda on your own or on this blog. Basically, why should you spend your precious time reading Ayurvedic articles, taking dosha test, or trying to implement Ayurvedic advice?

Here is why: Ayurveda is a holistic approach to life science and health that considers every individual a unique being and offers very customized, individual based solutions. By learning more about your body/mind constitution (dosha), you would be able to understand you body better, prevent or alleviate various ailments, and make your life a lot happier.

Let’s look at some of the reasons why Ayurveda is a suitable/interesting health and wellness solution to us, modern busy New Yorkers:

•    It will help you understand your body and its reactions better – by determining your unique body/mind constitution you will be able to learn why you like sweets and dislike cold weather or why under stress you suddenly get anxious while your friend gets angry. You will also be able to understand why you feel heavy after certain food, and why your stomach doesn’t feel good after flying, or how to avoid getting irritated and overheated in the summer. What’s more, it will allow you to predict these reactions and control them!
•   You will be in control of your cravings (or at least understand them, if you choose not to control them) – whether it is potato chips or chocolate cake, you will know what caused it and therefore what to do to pacify it. It is a precious knowledge!
•    Save big $$$$$ – While an Ayurvedic consultation might not seem that cheap, you will save a lot of money in the long run. Ayurveda uses diet, spices and life style routine as its major treatment methods. After visiting an Ayurvedic practitioner you won’t have any more expenses than your regular grocery shopping list. If you take time to read a book on Ayurveda or some of my articles, it will save you even more money. There are also cheap ($15) theme-based webinars available from Joyful Belly. Next week I will be posting a huge discount coupon from American Ayurveda for consultations!
•    Long-term – Ayurveda focuses on determining and resolving the root cause not the mere symptoms.
•    No side effects – actually I’m not being completely truthful here. There are tons of side effects that happen almost immediately after you start trying out Ayurvedic cooking or herbs. Often they include increased energy levels, better mood, healthy digestion, glowing skin, and restful sleep. It happens because Ayurveda looks at a human being as one whole where all the systems are interdependent, so if one is malfunctioning it causes malfunctions in other systems as well. Every disease is a symptom of improper functioning of one of the systems of that whole.
•    It is closer and easier than you think – most treatment methods prescribed by an Ayurvedic practitioner can be found in your cupboard. A pinch of cinnamon, olive oil, ginger, and black pepper can alleviate many an aliment, if you know how to use them. Ayurveda will teach you!
•    You will be the trend setter –Ayurveda is a new big thing among celebrities, who get personalized menus, cleansing (panchakarma), and lifestyle advice. Margaret Thatcher (former UK Prime Minister), Madonna, Goldie Hawn, and Christy Turlington, a supermodel, who created her own Ayurvedic beauty line, are all fond of Ayurveda. Getting to know your specific mind/body constitution will give you the power to create your own personal menu that will work for you. It will become a new big topic for an engaging conversation with your friends and you will be the one “in the know”! Stay on top of the trend!

Take advantage of the good stuff!
