It is that time of the year again… endless chocolate, candy, cupcakes and cocktails. Plus some serious pressure to look good in barely there Halloween costumes. Sugar and tiny sexy costumes don’t make a good combo. Besides all the extra calories, sugar tends to create bloating, adversely effect skin (pimples anyone?), and increase water retention. So unless you are planning on wearing a full coverage ghost costume, it is a good idea to stock up on healthy fiber and protein rich guilt-free treats. Who said that you have to deprive yourself?!
What and how we think about food can effect the way we feel and the way our body functions as much as the food itself, if not more.
Lately, I have been noticing that not everything that I eat makes me feel equally well. The more I pay attention to my stomach before and after food, the more feedback my body provides. While I am still learning to decipher my body’s messages, one finding keeps emerging more often than others: THE SIMPLER THE DISH, THE LESS ENERGY IT REQUIRES TO DIGEST. Which means, I have more energy left to do other things like write, think, teach, do yoga, and just enjoy my life.
